TEDx Midatlantic presented a letter to the US President from Dr. Theo Colborn, December 10th 2012 as a TED Talk.
On the day of December 21st 2012, I’m sharing her reading of this letter with you, because it is so hopeful. Even if we predicted doom, and in some ways may have created a doomsday environment around us, this talk promises a better day – if we can create one. Have a look at her ideas on making new laws to protect us and the environment from chemical contamination.
Dr. Theo Colborn knows a thing or two about what chemicals do in the human body. She is Founder, President of The Endocrine Disruption Exchange (TEDX), based in Paonia, Colorado. She was a professor of Zoology at the University of Florida, Gainesville. The doctor is now famous for her research on endocrine-disrupting chemicals. “Endocrine” refers to hormones, and we all know these are central to our health and happiness. Or sickness and misery, depending on whether the hormones in our bodies are balanced in the way nature intended.
An inspiration for students and scientists around the world, Dr. Colborn’s work helped us to create new laws all over the world. She has helped to shape academic research and also government and private research. She focuses on how chemicals can change the environment in the womb, for unborn children while they are developing inside the mother. An important area of research, this is often overshadowed by research on cancer that occurs later in life.
What do you think are changes we could make, to protect unborn children from chemical contamination?
